Finally, MTV – that went on air in India in 1996 – is going to Pakistan, along with Nick (the other channel from the stable of MTV Networks, which, in turn, is part of Viacom Inc). While MTV will be launched in Pakistan through a licensing agreement with the Indus Media Group, Nick will be distributed in Pakistan by ARY Digital Network (it is estimated that about 40 per cent of the Pakistani population is below 14 years of age, which makes it a hugely attractive market for a kids’ channel like Nick). MTV Pakistan promises to be a 24-hour channel that will cater to the tastes and interests of the Pakistani youth, and the channel will air content that will be a mix of international and local music.
